Privacy is riding high on everyone’s cybersecurity menu and the use of a VPN (Virtual Private Network) is accelerating. One of the drawbacks with VPNs is because by their very nature they travel through numerous routers, there is a speed degradation. For example, without a VPN connection, I am getting just under 30mps but when my VPN NordVPN kicks in that drops to between 23 and 25mps. To me, that is a small price to pay for added security and privacy.
But, just recently, NordVPN has turbocharged itself using a new technology it calls NordLynx.
NordLynx Is Wireguard
In a blog post, NordVPN states: “Built on the backbone WireGuard®, it’s the VPN tunnelling solution of the next generation. WireGuard was bound to become a game-changer in the VPN industry. This tunnelling protocol utilizes state-of-the-art cryptography and insanely lean architecture. With only 4000 lines of code — 100 times less than other protocols — it’s relatively easy to deploy, audit, and debug.
“WireGuard on its own can’t ensure user privacy that’s up to NordVPN’s standards. That’s why we developed a double NAT (Network Address Translation) system, which helps to establish a secure VPN connection and allows not to store any identifiable user data on a server.”
256,886 Speed Tests
To test the possibilities of NordLynx, NordVPN had to be thorough. it covered the majority of VPN use cases and, in doing so, performed 256,886 speed tests. The result was unequivocal — NordLynx is the fastest VPN protocol at its disposal.
And it works. On my desktop PC and two Android devices, I am now getting an extra 5mbs, and bear in mind that is during the Covid-19 pandemic when broadband speeds are being hammered by heavy usage.
